This historical event is very important to Italian history. It is the unification of Italy! It is important because it's, well, when Italy united, hence the name. It took place in Milan, Naples, Sardinia, Venetia, and Rome. In the 1800's Milan, Naples, and Sardinia were controlled by the Hoosburgs of Austria. In 1805 Napoleon unified Italy and declared himself king.Austria regains control until Giuseppe Mazzini organizes the Risorgimento, laying the foundation for Italian unity. In 1853 Italy joined England and France in the Crimean War. In 1860 Modena, Parma, Tuscany, and Romagna voted to join Sardinia; Sicily and Naples conquered and became part of Italy. The annexation of Venetia and Paple,Rome marked the copletion of the unification of Italy in 1870. This event occurred because during the 1700's and 1800's there was a rise and fall of many powers. By1860 the population voted to unite as one, thus bring stability to the area. Italy finally gained their independence in 1860.
